Alumni Scholarship Award in Education Presented to Dr. Barbara Torre Veltri
On May 20, 2010 the Manhattanville College Alumni Scholarship Award in Education was presented to Dr. Barbara Torre Veltri for her book, Learning on Other People's Kids: Becoming a Teach For America Teacher. The award is granted each year to the School of Education Alumnus who has published notable scholarship in the field of education.
Dr. Veltri was recognized for her new book entitled “Learning on Other People’s Kids: Becoming a Teach for America Teacher” that captures the voices of Teach for America novices who offer candid accounts of their experiences in becoming Teach for America teachers.
Dr. Veltri has always been an advocate for social change and social justice. Her colleagues have noted that her pre-service education students are deeply influenced by Dr. Veltri’s passion and educational philosophy.
The book has also received a publication grant from the Textbook and Academic Authors Association, Inc. Only two are awarded each year.
