A volume in the series: Issues in the Research, Theory, Policy, and Practice of Urban Education. Series Editors: Denise E. Armstrong, Brock University and Brenda J. McMahon, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte

This book explores the struggle for social justice in contemporary schools. In particular, it outlines problems, issues and struggles that administrators face when attempting to promote equity, social justice and inclusion. Employing census data, case studies, interviews of administrators, and theoretical and empirical research this book extends our current knowledge of the actual practice of leadership and social justice in schools. While recent research has generated important information about the experiences of leaders who seek to promote social justice in their schools, there is still much we don’t know. What is becoming clear is that administrators often struggle as they attempt to promote social justice issues. Indeed, it is not always easy to promote social justice in schools. Administrators who attempt to do so do not always meet with success. This book aims to shed light on the struggles that these administrators face in the hope that such information can inform others who look to promote social justice in their schools.
