BOOK DESCRIPTION:
The American University Summer Institute on Education Equity and Justice is pleased to announce a call for chapters for an edited book centered on this year’s conference theme, "Ending Violence in PreK-16 Schools". This book aims to provide a comprehensive examination of the complex issues surrounding violence prevention and intervention in educational settings, with a focus on promoting equity, justice, and safety for all students.

TOPICS OF INTEREST:
We invite scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and advocates to contribute chapters that explore innovative strategies, research findings, case studies, and best practices related to ending violence in schools from preschool through higher education. Potential topics for chapters include, but are not limited to:

1. Violence prevention programs and initiatives at the PreK–16 levels
2. Restorative justice practices and conflict resolution strategies in educational settings
3. Addressing bullying, harassment, and cyberbullying in schools
4. Culturally responsive approaches to violence prevention and intervention
5. Supporting the mental health and well-being of students and educators
6. Intersectional perspectives on violence and identity in education
7. Policy recommendations and legislative efforts to address gun violence in PreK-12 schools
8. Engaging families and communities in violence prevention efforts
9. Addressing systemic inequities and disparities in school discipline practices
10. Empowering student voice and agency in creating safer school environments
11. Gun violence prevention programs in K-12 schools, universities, and local communities

CHAPTER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Contributors are encouraged to submit original, unpublished chapters that offer insights, analyses, and practical recommendations for addressing the complex challenges of violence in educational settings. We welcome interdisciplinary perspectives and diverse methodological approaches that contribute to a deeper understanding of the issues at hand and offer actionable solutions for promoting equity and justice in schools.

Interested authors should submit a 250–300 word abstract outlining the proposed chapter, along with a brief author bio, to aellis@american.edu by August 1, 2024. Accepted authors will be notified by September 1, 2024, and invited to submit full chapters for inclusion in the edited book. At that time, prospective contributors will receive additional timeline details.

We believe that this edited volume has the potential to make a significant contribution to the field of education by providing valuable insights and resources for educators, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners working to create safer, more inclusive learning environments for all students. We look forward to receiving your contributions and engaging in meaningful dialogue on this critical topic.
